ZigBee is a standard based on IEEE802.15.4.
It allows you to build medium to large wireless networks of sensors and controllers.
The standard describes a few network topologies: star, tree and mesh to support a wide variety of applications.
Zigbee co-exists with other wireless mediums (e.g. bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular).
